A large part of my work happens in Pre-Production. I work with the director to understand their vision for the intimate scenes, and we make a plan for how we can best work together. We’ll get into the specifics of each scene and what is needed (degree of nudity, simulated sex acts, etc.) so I can accurately relay this information to the actors.
I then speak with the actors and confirm their levels of consent regarding each element of the scene. From these conversations, descriptive rider language is created and passed onto production, and set protocols are confirmed with the AD and producers. This rider language becomes the basis for what is needed for the actors once we’re in production. I’ll coordinate with all relevant department heads to ensure any modesty garments, barriers, merkins or prosthetics needed for the scenes are communicated and ready for rehearsals and the day of shooting.
On set, i’ll work with the AD and director to ensure protocols are being followed, actors are confident and clear about their choreography, and support the director so that the story being told in the intimate scenes is reading true on camera.

With my job, I work hard to avoid surprises and ensure everyone knows what is happening and when. This creates a healthy and productive working environment on set where everyone is confident in the specifics, and we avoid shooting/rehearsal delays from miscommunications. The heart of this job is being an advocate - not just for actors - but all crew members, an advisor and resource for the director, and a liaison between all relevant departments. Safe environments allow for the most bold intimacy work to be brought forth.

SAG-AFTRA requires an intimacy coordinator (IC) on set for any production involving nudity, simulated sex, or "hyper-exposed" scenes. These protocols are standard for union projects to ensure safety, consent, and choreographing intimate contact, with the 2025 SAG-AFTRA Intimacy Coordinator Agreement taking effect February 22, 2026.
An Intimacy Coordinator can also be brought on for scenes involving kissing, partial nudity, intense moments of emotion or anytime an actor or director asks for one.
